Google is offering eligible college students free access to some of its artificial intelligence (AI) plans for one year and has introduced new study tools in Gemini to help students organize coursework and prepare for classes.
Under the offer, students in the United States can get Google AI Pro free for 12 months. The plan valued at $19.99 per month includes higher usage limits for Gemini, access to Gemini Spark, Gemini features in Gmail and Google docs and 5TB of storage. While students in India and other countries can get Google AI Plus free for a year. The plan includes access to Gemini Omni, higher usage limits and 400GB of storage.
Google is also offering eligible students discounts of up to 70 percent on selected Google AI Pro offers and YouTube premium subscriptions. The company has also launched a dedicated student hub within the Gemini app. From the hub, students can start a study notebook, make flashcards, generate practice quizzes and access other learning features.
The company mentioned that future student-focused additions to Gemini will also be available through this section. In the coming weeks, Google plans to add graphs and images to study notebook lessons. Gemini will also be able to identify important dates, such as exams and assignment deadlines from a syllabus and add them to Google calendar with the student’s permission.
Google is also expanding Gemini’s interactive visualisation capabilities, allowing students to explore concepts through 3D simulations, tables and other visual elements. For example students can use Gemini to explore a 3D model of DNA or visualise how a pendulum transfers energy.
The tech giant is bringing its Deep Research feature to Gemini Live. “Students can ask Gemini to research a topic, then feel free to close the chat, lock their screen, or keep chatting about other things. Gemini works asynchronously in the background and sends a notification when your report is ready,” the company said.
Google said the student hub, study notebooks, interactive visualizations, and Deep Research in Gemini Live are rolling out on August 19 to all Gemini app users.
