Mumbai city of India is all set to receive 15,000 additional CCTV cameras, equipped with artificial intelligence features, for enhanced public security and surveillance, as part of Maharashtra government’s modernization efforts for urban policing.
According to media reports, the city-wide CCTV surveillance project will be funded by a budget of Rs 2,140 crores (230 million dollars) from the Maharashtra government, or phase-3 of the project and awarded the major contract to GVPR Engineers.
According to local officials, the latest technology employed at the new facility will include several different artificial intelligence capabilities including facial recognition, detection of speed violations, analysis of behavior, and real-time monitoring of traffic, all of which will assist police in identifying suspicious behavior and addressing resource shortages.
Law enforcement agencies and civic officials will have real-time access to video feeds via a unified command structure, which provides both organizations real-time access to video feeds.
With the ever-increasing number of people who are on the move throughout a large city like Mumbai, authorities expect AI-driven surveillance will lead to major improvements in public safety and disaster preparedness.
Phase three of the project has been awarded to GVPR ENGINEERS as part of the contract awarded to the following consortium; GVPR, Secutech Automation, and CMS Computers. In a high-density city like Mumbai, the upgraded system will also aid disaster response, civic monitoring and traffic management, in addition to law enforcement.
