Tech Mogul and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced that his aerospace company will not rely exclusively on its own in-house AI agent Grok Bot and would rather pick the best backend AI model among available options for any desired task.
In a post on X, Musk said that SpaceX, his space exploration research company, will use the best available options by dynamically selecting from the likes of Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 for general/reasoning/coding, MidJourney for image AI model, SunoAI for music AI model and other leading APIs.
Important note regarding Grok @Bot:
Going forward, @SpaceX will use the best back end model for any given task, including Claude Opus 5.5, MidJourney, Suno and other leading APIs.
Whatever is most likely to give you the best outcome.

“Whatever is most likely to give you the best outcome,” posted Musk in a tweet on X on Wednesday.
Launched in August 2026, Grok Bot is an always-on AI agent product from SpaceXAI unit and is distinct from the Grok chatbot of X (formerly Twitter.) Unlike Grok which is an AI chatbot, Grok Bot is meant for co-working in the background as its reported capabilities include signing into tools and working across apps, emails and files, completing multi-step tasks and running several bots simultaneously that communicate with each other.
This is not the first time Musk has accepted that Grok AI might not be the best option for every task and domain. In July 2026, he told Tesla staff to use Grok “when possible” mainly on cost, after the company capped weekly spendings on Anthropic, OpenAI and Google tools but exempted in-house Grok.
Musk has also publicly admitted that Anthropic’s Claude Fable model was “definitely better” than Grok 4.5.
