Google Deepmind Unveils Genie 4 That Offers Real-Time Interactive World Simulation

Genie 4 is currently available as a research preview to a limited group of trusted testers. DeepMind plans to expand access to Google AI Ultra subscribers through Project Genie and to early-access partners via the Gemini API and Google AI Studio. However, a public waitlist is also open.

Google DeepMind announced Genie 4- their latest world model offering real-time interactive simulation with photorealism and native audio generation.

Genie 4 is natively multimodal, generating visuals alongside ambient sounds, music, and interactive dialogue in real time. It builds on the Gemini family: Gemini Omni anchors simulations in real-world appearance and behavior, while other Gemini models supply reasoning to preserve coherence and continuity as scenes evolve.

Genie 4 world model would allow users to launch an event and then steer the world with natural language prompts to modify a simulation in real-time, for example, changing the weather or introducing a person/object in the video. The model simulates real-world physics scenarios, such as aerodynamics and collisions to offer hyper photo realistic experience to users.

“Genie 4 is our first real-time world model to generate audio natively. Genie 4 introduces interactive dialogue that adapts on the fly. Characters converse and react to your inputs or events in the world, all in real-time,” read a post by Google DeepMind.

Google DeepMind has not made the world model Genie 4 public and has launched Project Genie under which trusted testers will be provided research preview version starting with Google AI Ultra subscribers and early access partners of the Gemini API and Google AI Studio. There is also a public waitlist announced by Google DeepMind.

Genie 4 is a natively multimodal and incorporates and builds from the Gemini AI family of models as Gemini Omni anchors its simulations in real-world appearance and behaviour, while other Gemini models provide complex reasoning.

Explaining the concept, Google DeepMind said in a post, “Bringing Gemini and Genie 4 together adds a new layer of reasoning to world simulation, allowing us to model complex, multi-step events and test how AI systems navigate different environments before bringing them to the real world.
To achieve this in real-time, Gemini 3.8 Flash serves as a guiding agent in the loop: as Genie 4 generates a world in real-time, Gemini continuously observes the scene, breaks down goals into a sequence of steps, and reviews incoming frames to track the progress and verify that each step succeeded. As the world shifts or the user intervenes, Gemini adapts its plan in the moment, unlocking worlds with reliable causality, procedural behaviors, and multi-step reasoning.”

DeepMind frames Genie 4 as progress toward hybrid world models that combine sensory simulation with code- and language-based reasoning, underscoring world simulation as a practical pathway for agent training and interactive creative tools.
