GlobalFoundries (GF), a semiconductor manufacturer, has opened an Advanced Facilities Control Centre (AFCC) at its Singapore campus in collaboration with Siemens, with plans to expand the AI-enabled facilities management system across its global manufacturing network.

The first phase will bring together five existing facilities control centres at the Singapore campus into a single command centre. The system will consolidate facilities data and operational metrics, using AI-driven tools to help engineers identify potential equipment issues, investigate their causes and prioritize responses.

GF said the centre would use predictive maintenance capabilities to help detect emerging problems earlier and reduce unplanned downtime.

Upon full global deployment, the system is expected to integrate more than one million critical data points from facilities equipment across GF’s manufacturing network. The data will help GF monitor facilities performance across sites and identify opportunities to improve operations.

The initiative also includes autonomous inspection robots equipped with thermal imaging, gas detection, vibration and acoustic sensors. The robots will inspect facilities and transmit real-time data to the AFCC, helping engineers identify potential anomalies and respond to them.

“With trusted data, secure infrastructure and deep industrial know-how, we can scale predictive maintenance, advanced automation and Industrial AI with Singapore as the starting point,” said Isabel Chong, Managing Director, Digital Industries ASEAN, Siemens.

GF said the initiative would also equip facilities engineers with more data and AI-driven tools for diagnostics and problem-solving, allowing them to focus on higher-value tasks.

Earlier this month, the company was chosen as the technology provider and operator for two planned semiconductor manufacturing facilities at its Malta, New York, site under a US-Japan initiative involving up to $21 billion in funding.
