OpenAI has announced that it will expand its European Union headquarters by leasing the Tropical Fruit Warehouse in Dublin and create 250 new roles over the next two years to meet growing demand from users, customers and developers across Europe.

Welcomed by Irish Prime Minister Taoiseach Micheál Martin, the expansion spans 88,000 square feet, the new headquarters in Dublin’s Docklands will support a growing workforce, deepen collaboration with customers and developers.

OpenAI currently employs more than 100 people in Ireland and plans to create 250 new roles over the next two years across go-to-market (sales), engineering, user operations, human resources, finance, privacy, legal, corporate secretarial, and workplace functions.

Since announcing Ireland as the location of its EU headquarters in 2023, OpenAI said ChatGPT’s user base in the country has grown to more than one million.

The company said the investment will also support the expansion of its “OpenAI for Ireland” programme, which focuses on helping young builders, startups and SMEs gain skills and experience in AI.

Our new EU headquarters reflects our long-term commitment, helping businesses, developers and communities benefit from our innovation,” said Emma Redmond, Associate General Counsel and Head of OpenAI Ireland.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin said Ireland’s strong talent pool, research ecosystem and pro-innovation environment have helped position the country to benefit from the AI revolution for citizens, businesses and the broader economy.

Reacting to the announcement in a LinkedIn post, Derek Nolan, who works in Global Affairs at OpenAI, said the company has grown from a standing start to a team of more than 100 people in Ireland in just three years.
