Major Tech and AI companies including NVIDIA, IBM, Adobe, Microsoft, Cloudflare, Palo Alto, SpaceX, Siemens, Palantir among others announced the launch of Open Secure AI Alliance in an effort to promote open-source artificial intelligence solutions.

Launched on Monday, the new international collaboration will see AI and Tech companies based out of the U.S., Europe and SE Asia develop and share open technologies, techniques and tools to safeguard software and agents in the age of AI. According to NVIDIA, it was a recent hacking incident at Hugging Face platform by an autonomous AI agent of OpenAI that prompted setting up pf an Open Secure AI Alliance.

The alliance claims that the introduction of open-source artificial intelligence technologies is crucial for protecting digital infrastructure, since these technologies permit security experts, businesses, and governments to inspect, adjust and improve protective technologies.

“Attackers have frontier AI. Defenders need a frontier AI ecosystem—the best open and closed models, force-multiplied by a global community. During the Hugging Face incident, closed AI blocked essential forensics. An open-weight frontier model helped contain the intrusion. That’s why we created the Open Secure AI Alliance,” said Jensen Huang, CEO, NVIDIA on X.

According to a statement by NVIDIA, the company will “contribute open models, model weights, data and new agent harness research to the Open Secure AI Alliance to speed the development of new cybersecurity tools and techniques.”

Similarly, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) contributes SPIFFE, an open-source standard that provides a universal way to assign, verify, and manage secure cryptographic identities for software workloads.

“Similarly, Hugging Face has offered Safetensors — a safe format to store AI model weights, IBM and Red Hat’s Lightwell extends security across the open source supply chain with digitally signed patches, Microsoft’s MDASH multi-model agentic scanning harness orchestrates specialized AI agents and SpaceXAI has open sourced the Grok Build terminal-based AI coding agent to promote trust, transparency and new capabilities, and plans to open source the weights of the Grok line of models to support the developer and research communities,” read the statement by NVIDIA.

The alliance also called on lawmakers to consider open AI security mechanisms not as threats but as protective implementing tools. It urged the governments and industry communities to invest in the common infrastructure, which includes security datasets, assessment systems and testing environments. The initiative has appeared amidst ongoing discussions about AI regulation. Supporters of open approaches contend that security can be improved through a wider access of experts to the technology.

The alliance propagates the idea that AI security ought to be developed through collaboration, transparency, and effective safeguards.
