HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Wins Record $673.8M Contract to Power U.S. Data Centers with HiMSEN Engines

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has signed a record $673.8 million contract with Corban Energy Group to supply 1,000 MW of power generation systems powered by its 9.6-MW HiMSEN engines for data centers operated by a major U.S. technology company.

HD Hyundai, one of the largest South Korean conglomerates, has secured its largest-ever-order for power generation engines with
US based energy infra developer Corban Energy Group, strengthening its position in the US data center market.

HD Hyundai, which specializes in shipbuilding, heavy equipment, machinery and petroleum, signed a $673.8 million contract with Corban Energy Group to supply power generation systems powered by its 9.6-megawatt HiMSEN engines.

The deal covers a total generation capacity of 1,000 megawatts and will provide electricity for data centers operated by a major U.S. technology company.

Corban Energy Group supplies gas, LNG and power infrastructure solutions for large-scale projects, including data centers and Department of War projects.

The contract was signed between Daniel Chung (President of Corban/Coban Energy Group) and Han Juseog (Head of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Engine & Machinery Business Unit) in Seoul on August 9.

“The 9.6-MW HiMSEN engines supplied under this agreement are high-capacity, medium-speed engines that offer high power generation efficiency and reliability. Their high-output and high-efficiency performance enables continuous 24/7 operation, providing a competitive advantage in the data center market,” read a statement from Hyundai HD.

The latest agreement is significantly larger than HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ previous U.S. power generation deal. In April, the company signed a $425 million contract with U.S.-based energy infrastructure developer AEG to supply power generation equipment for data centers.

The two companies also plan to deepen their partnership and pursue additional projects together.

HD Hyundai is also pursuing opportunities across its broader group. HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering is developing technologies for floating data centers, while HD Hyundai Electric and HD Hyundai Marine Solution are expanding their businesses in electrical equipment and engine maintenance services.

An HD Hyundai Heavy Industries official said the company is seeing growing interest in HiMSEN engines and plans to pursue more opportunities in the global power generation market.
