Ahead of SEMICON India, USIBC Pushes Deeper US-India Tech Partnership

The US-India Business Council (USIBC), an official partner of SEMICON India 2026, has positioned semiconductors at the heart of the next phase of the US-India technology partnership ahead of the event later this month.

Atul Keshap, president of USIBC, said the two countries share “historic and defining strategic and technology interests” and are working together to build resilient and trusted supply chains for critical minerals, semiconductors and advanced electronics.

He also cited frameworks including TRUST and PaxSilica as central to the long-term technological partnership between the two countries.

His remarks reflect the growing role of semiconductors in the US-India relationship, which is increasingly extending beyond trade to technological leadership, supply-chain resilience and broader strategic interests.

The comments come as India expands its semiconductor capabilities across design, equipment and materials, fabrication, packaging, research and talent development.

On August 31, addressing the media on Semicon 2.0, Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said India achieved its target of developing 85,000 semiconductor engineers, originally projected over 10 years, in just four years, and has now set a new target of developing one lakh more engineers.

SEMICON India 2026 will be held from September 17–19 at Yashobhoomi, the India International Convention and Expo Centre in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who turns 76 that day, is set to inaugurate the event. This year’s theme, “Transform Tomorrow: Silicon to Systems – Building the Ecosystem,” reflects India’s push to build a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem.

Keshap said USIBC’s SEMICON India delegation was part of a broader campaign to help grow the ecosystem and connect American and Indian industry.

He said the council was working to create “real policy architecture” for the partnership, with further engagements planned through a conference with the Hoover Institution at Stanford University in October, the Bengaluru Technology Summit in November and Vibrant Gujarat early next year.
