Jitin Prasada, US Commerce Secretary Discuss Semiconductors, AI and Data Centers

India and the US explored deeper cooperation in AI, semiconductors and data centers during a bilateral meeting at the G20 Innovation Ministerial.

Indian Minister of State (MoS) for Commerce & Industry and Electronics & IT Jitin Prasada held bilateral discussions with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick focussed on semi-conductors, AI and data centers during the G20 innovation ministerial in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

In his bilateral meet with Lutnick, Prasada discussed building India-US cooperation in semiconductors, artificial intelligence and data centres, which he described as a critical building block of the emerging digital economy.

“Semiconductors, AI and data centres. These are critical building blocks of the emerging digital economy,” Prasada said in a post on X, adding that the two sides explored ways to deepen practical collaboration and advance technology led opportunities between India and US.

 

The minister also met Anthropic co-founder Tom Brown during the ministerial meeting and discussed developments in AI and opportunities arising from advances in the technology. “Engaged with Tom Brown, Co-founder of Anthropic, during the G20 Innovation Ministerial in Chapel Hill. We discussed the rapidly evolving Artificial Intelligence landscape and the opportunities emerging from advances in AI, he tweeted.

 

Meanwhile Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang praised India’s IT industry while speaking to the media on the sidelines of the G20 meeting.

“India is one of the world’s leading IT industries. And this is the beginning of a new IT platform. And I had the benefit of seeing Modiji a decade ago talking about AI. And I’m really anxious to see and very excited to see the local companies and the local startups starting in India, starting to take advantage of the technology, contributing to the technology, and then building the local AI economy,” IANS tweeted the response of Huang.

 

Responding to Huang’s remark Prasada tweeted that the recognition reflected global confidence in the country’s strong IT foundation and rapidly emerging startups ecosystems. He further stresses that the country is aiming to build a robust indigenous AI ecosystem through the capabilities of local innovators and youth.
