India’s growing digital economy is increasingly becoming a base for AI, cloud, and digital infrastructure. In a major sign of that shift, Uber is preparing to launch its first-ever data centre in India through a partnership with Indian conglomerate Adani Group.
The announcement came from Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi after a meeting with Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Posting on X, Khosrowshahi highlighted India’s growing importance in Uber’s global technology strategy.
“As India fast emerges as a leading innovation hub for Uber, we are setting up our first data centre in the country with the Adani Group to test and deploy our tech,” he wrote.
“Ready later this year, this investment will help us build at scale — from India, for the world,” he added.
Great to meet @gautam_adani in Ahmedabad this morning and build on our existing partnership with the Adani group.

The data centre is expected to become operational later this year, though financial details have not been disclosed. The facility will be used to test and deploy Uber’s technology including AI-driven systems across pricing, logistics, mapping, and mobility platforms.
Uber already has a significant technology presence in India, with its engineering centre in Bengaluru, its first in Asia, and a large office in Hyderabad serving as key hubs for its global operations. According to media reports, India is also Uber’s third-largest market by trip volume, after the US and Brazil.
For the Adani Group, the partnership adds another global technology name to its digital infrastructure portfolio. The conglomerate operates AdaniConneX, a joint venture with EdgeConneX, building toward a 1 GW national data centre platform. AdaniConneX also partnered with Google last year on a major AI data centre project in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, expected to attract around $15 billion in investments over 2026–2030.
During his five-day India visit, Khosrowshahi also met Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Monday and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday in New Delhi, to discuss Uber’s long-term investment plans and India’s broader digital economy agenda.
