Switzerland will hold a curtain-raiser in early July 2026 to announce the theme and share further details on the 2027 Geneva AI Summit, expected to take place in the second half of the year. The summit will bring together governments, industry, academia and civil society to strengthen international cooperation on artificial intelligence governance.
The summit will highlight the importance of international law and fundamental rights in the development and deployment of AI systems.
Earlier this year, during the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, Swiss President Guy Parmelin met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other heads of state and government. Discussions focused on the use and international governance of artificial intelligence, as well as international issues and bilateral cooperation. At the summit, Parmelin announced that Switzerland would host the 2027 Geneva AI Summit.

“Switzerland intends to work closely with partners from academia and the private sector. Hosting the AI summit will strengthen Switzerland’s position in digital policy and reaffirm its active commitment to a rules-based international order,” the Swiss government said in a statement issued in February 2026. “It will also consolidate the country’s role as a leading centre for innovation and research in artificial intelligence,” it added.
Switzerland is coordinating preparations with India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with the UAE expected to host the 2028 summit, according to The Economic Times. Parmelin also said Switzerland “is looking forward” to working with the subsequent incoming host of the 2028 AI Summit, the United Arab Emirates, as a partner for the Geneva Summit.
