India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for the development of human-centric and inclusive AI, emphasizing that frontier technologies should benefit society.

Speaking at VivaTech 2026, held June 17–20 in Paris, Modi said AI should improve lives, widen access and drive growth across society.

“Technology can lead to progress only when it is democratized. India believes that in this era of disruption, technology must deliver for all. AI must improve lives, widen access, drive growth and also help us sustain a healthy planet,” Modi said.

India is the AI Country Partner at VivaTech 2026, with more than 80 Indian deep-tech companies and startups participating in the event, according to the statement.

Separately, in a post on X, Modi said about the discussion with Arthur Mensch, co-founder and CEO of Mistral AI, on the evolving artificial intelligence landscape. The discussions focused on trusted AI, innovation and ensuring AI remains human-centric and inclusive.

He said, “Talked about prospects for partnerships in India in diverse aspects relating to AI.” “India remains committed to developing AI solutions that empower humanity while promoting innovation, trust and international cooperation,” he added.

The discussion comes as India and France step up cooperation on trusted AI. Earlier this month, Bharat Innovates 2026 in Nice featured calls for a trusted, inclusive and scalable AI corridor, while the India-France Innovation Roadmap 2030 places trusted AI at the center of the two countries’ innovation partnership.
