Maharashtra Government Approves ₹11.26 Crore Sarvam AI Deployment

The Maharashtra Government has approved the deployment of Sarvam AI’s Indus workspace across state departments at an estimated expenditure of Rs 11.26 crore over two years, according to a Government Resolution (GR). Around 2,500 officials are expected to use the platform as part of their daily work.

The project has an indicative first-year cost of Rs 5.63 crore. Indus will be used for policy research, drafting notes and replies, translation, document summarization, data analysis and converting scanned records into searchable text, according to Sarvam.

The platform supports work across 22 languages, including Marathi, according to Sarvam. Sarvam also said that Indus will operate on secure and audited infrastructure located entirely in India, with government data remaining within the country.

The government also approved a one-month pilot of Sarvam’s Samvaad AI agent for tuberculosis awareness and the integration of Saaras, a speech recognition model, and Bulbul, a text-to-speech model, into the MahaAI platform for four months on a usage-based, no-commitment basis.

The Electronics, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence Department will bear the expenditure, while the Commissionerate of Electronics, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence has been authorized to implement the project, according to the GR.
