The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) of India has opened applications for the IndiaAI fellowship (2026-2027) under IndiaAI mission, offering financial support between Rs1-2 lakh to students pursuing undergraduate, integrated degree and postgraduate programmes, with additional funding for international conference presentations.

Under the fellowship, undergraduate and integrated degree (IDD) students can receive up to Rs 1 lakh, while postgraduate students are eligible for up to Rs 2 lakh. An additional Rs 1 lakh is available to support international conference presentations.

Students enrolled in three-year undergraduate programmes can apply from the beginning of their fifth semester, while those in four-year undergraduate programmes are eligible from the beginning of their seventh semester. Students pursuing five-year integrated degree programmes can apply from the beginning of their ninth semester. Postgraduate students in their first, second or third semester are also eligible to apply.

The deadline for applications is November 30, 2026. Students can check their eligibility and apply through the IndiaAI Fellowship portal. The IndiaAI fellowship is part of the IndiaAI mission, a government initiative approved in March 2024 with an outlay of Rs 10,371.92 crore over five years to strengthen the country’s artificial intelligence ecosystem.

The AI fellowship comes as part of the flagship initiatives for the India-AI summit which was held this year in February. The programme has been expanded to support 13,500 scholars, including 8,000 undergraduate students, 5,000 postgraduate students and 500 PhD researchers. It is also open to students from disciplines including engineering, medicine, law, commerce and liberal arts.

However as of around October 2026, only about 680 fellowships had been awarded across 178 institutions
