Over 200 Indian business leaders from manufacturing, semi-conductors, AI, Clean Energy, Steel, Automotives, Healthcare and Finance began their high-stake business delegation meet in Japan on Monday.
India’s union commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal is leading India’s largest business delegation ever to Japan with 200 plus representatives from sectors including semiconductors, electronics, automotive, clean energy, steel, financial services, healthcare and start-ups. The delegation will go to Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka.
The four day meet is expected to give a push to bilateral relations in semiconductors, artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing. The first day of the meeting began in Tokyo with the minister meeting members of Keidanren (Japan Business Federation) , the apex body representing over 1,500 leading Japanese companies, on Monday.

The Tokyo leg will feature dedicated sessions on semiconductors and artificial intelligence. Investment opportunities, technology partnerships and greater cooperation between Indian and Japanese companies in emerging technologies are likely to be discussed.

During his trip to Nagoya, Goyal will meet with representatives of automotive and steel companies, while in Osaka, he will take part in an investor and business seminar on sectors of electronics, manufacturing, clean energy, and consumer markets.
This visit comes at a time when India and Japan are looking to elevate their economic relationship by establishing strong trade and investment relations that rely heavily on semiconductor technology and artificial intelligence.
India and Japan formalized their AI partnership through the Japan-India AI Cooperation Initiative (JAI), launched during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Japan in August 2025, followed by the first India-Japan AI Strategic Dialogue in Mumbai and Bengaluru in April 2026. This framework advanced further at the 16th Annual Summit in July 2026, when the two leaders issued a dedicated Joint Statement elevating the countries to strategic AI research and development partners focused on safe, secure, and human-centric ecosystems.
