“The timeline is not years, it is months,” a statement from Five Eyes Intelligence Alliance between Australia, New Zealand, U.K. Canada and U.S., warned against the rising cybersecurity risks associated with Frontier AI models.

The statement released Monday gave a clarion call to leaders to take necessary steps to mitigate evolving cybersecurity risks led by Frontier AI models.

“Frontier AI models are anticipated to exceed current industry expectations, fundamentally transforming both offensive and defensive cyber capabilities. The timeline is not years, it is months,” read a statement from Five Eyes Alliance.

“We urge leaders to assess risk, readiness and accountability, prioritize foundational cyber security practices and controls, empower cyber leaders with authority and resources, and stay actively engaged as threats and guidance evolve,” the statement read.
The alliance also warned that “adversaries” are already using AI to prepare for sophisticated attacks on critical digital infra systems.

“Adversaries are already using AI to move faster and more effectively. Defenders must do the same. Organizations that integrate AI tools into their security operations can detect vulnerabilities earlier, improve software quality, monitor unusual behaviour, and respond faster to incidents

However, four partners of the alliance have been kept out of Anthropic’s Frontier AI models Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5 by the U.S. government citing national security concerns. Claimed as an AI model with unprecedented capabilities, Anthropic’s frontier models were branded as public risk by the company itself.

The export control was enforced after researchers found a way to jailbreak Claude Fable AI model safeguards.

The statement from Five Eyes Alliance has been signed by four heads of Cyber Security Centers of Australia, Canada, New Zealand and U.K., represented by Stephanie Crowe, Rajiv Gupta, Catriona Robinson and Richard Horne in that order, along with US’ David Imbordino (National Security Agency) and Nick Andersen (Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency).

The recent decision of White House to put export control over Anthropic’s frontier AI models attracted criticism from world leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian PM Mark Carney and U.K AI Minister Kanishka Narayan.

Countries have also stressed upon the importance of developing ‘sovereign AI’ in the wake of an AI dominance race between U.S. and China.

The alliance however maintains that its cybersecurity partnership is deep and transparent as per the statement.
