Google DeepMind has selected 16 startups, nonprofits and research organizations from across the Asia-Pacific region for its inaugural AI for the Planet Accelerator cohort, a program aimed at using frontier AI to tackle urgent environmental challenges.
The program kicked off with a week-long bootcamp in Singapore from September 7 to 11 and will culminate in a Demo Day in December.
Over the next three months, participants will receive access to Google‘s AI stack, including specialized frontier models, along with technical guidance and tailored mentorship to help scale their environmental solutions.
The selected organizations work across three areas.
Participants working on nature protection and climate resilience include New Zealand’s 800 Trust, Listening Lab and Wildlife.ai; Singapore’s Kumi Analytics; South Korea’s TelePIX; and Indonesia’s Yayasan Ekosistem Lestari.
In sustainable agriculture, participants include Indonesia’s Edufarmers; Thailand’s Living Roots; Singapore’s SIGMA; India’s Terrastack; and Australia’s X-Centric.
The climate and carbon solutions group includes Japan’s Archeda; Singapore’s City Syntax Lab; and India’s Climitra Carbon, Farmers for Forests and Varaha Climate.
Four Indian organizations are part of the cohort: Terrastack, Climitra Carbon, Farmers for Forests and Varaha Climate. Their work spans satellite and agronomic data, invasive species monitoring and biochar, agroforestry, regenerative agriculture, and carbon removal.
