The U.S. Department of War has excluded Anthropic, while announcing new agreements with eight frontier AI and Tech companies SpaceX, OpenAI, Google, NVIDIA, Microsoft, Reflection, Oracle and AWS, “to deploy advanced AI capabilities across classified military networks.”

According to a statement released by U.S. Department of War, the chosen companies will provide resources to deploy their capabilities on the department’s Impact Level 6 (IL6) and Impact Level 7 (IL7) network environments, highly secure networks used for classified defense operations. The agreement intends to enable new capabilities across the US Department of War’s three core tenets- warfighting, intelligence and enterprise operations.

These agreements accelerate the transformation toward establishing the United States military as an AI-first fighting force and will strengthen our warfighters’ ability to maintain decision superiority across all domains of warfare,” read a statement from U.S. Department of War.

The announcement and exclusion of Anthropic from the list, comes after the U.S. based AI start-up was branded as a “supply-chain risk” by U.S. Department of War in February 2026, following its CEO Dario Amodei’s refusal to allow use of its frontier AI model for domestic mass surveillance and fully autonomous weapons for the U.S. military.

However, recently the Pentagon had announced use of Claude Mythos–Anthropic’s latest frontier AI model, limited to preview use for governments and corporations.

As mandated by President Trump and Secretary Hegseth, the Department will continue to envelop our warfighters with advanced AI to meet the unprecedented emerging threats of tomorrow and to strengthen our Arsenal of Freedom,” read a statement from US Dept of War.

The U.S. Department of War also informed its official AI platform GenAI mil has been used by over 1.3 million department personnel.
