UK Expands Global Talent Visa to 100+ Companies to Attract Top AI, Quantum and Clean Energy

In a move to attract world-class international talent in Artificial Intelligence, life sciences and clean energy, the UK government has expanded the Global Talent visa. More than 100 research-intensive companies can now host and support exceptional scientists and engineers on funded projects.

In a bid to attract international “exceptional” talent in fields of Artificial Intelligence, Life Sciences and clean energy, the UK government has expanded its global talent visa allowing over 100 UK based companies to host and support exceptional international scientists and engineers working on funded research projects.

According to an announcement made by the UK government on Thursday, the move is not just aimed towards attracting top abroad talent but also enable British businesses to under Research and Development projects in the U.K.

“Today’s expansion means that talented research individuals can now be supported by over 100 commercial research businesses, alongside the already approved universities and research institutes. This will include global names like AstraZeneca and Jaguar Land Rover as well as fast-growing innovators, including Added Value Solutions (AVS), Denroy Plastics and Ffilm Cymru,” read a statement from the UK government on Thursday,

The global talent visa program of UK offers four pathways including academic appointment, Individual Fellowships (fast-track), Endorsed Funders (fast-track), and Peer Review.

The UK government also announced preparations to broaden the Future Technology Research and Innovation (FTRI) scheme, enabling eligible UK companies, working on critical technologies, to host international researchers, scientists, interns and technical specialists for research, training and work placements of up to two years.

“The forthcoming expansion will open FTRI to a wider range of R&D focused businesses, giving more companies in priority technology sectors – like AI, quantum and engineering biology – a way to tap into specialist international expertise. These could be early-career scientists gaining hands-on experience, to seasoned specialists collaborating on cutting-edge projects,” read the statement from UK Government.

 

Meanwhile, the UK’s Sovereign AI plan announced the launching of their portfolio careers page that offers employment opportunities from AI/tech companies supported by the government initiated campaign.
