Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has proposed taxing Artificial Intelligence (AI) companies for job losses due to widespread AI adoption in the workforce, during his keynote address at AI Symposium at Harvard Kennedy School.
Delivering the keynote address at Harvard University in Boston Friday, Reddy proposed the concept of “people credits” similar to the carbon credit mechanism, for AI companies to compensate for the job losses.
“The CM proposed the concept of “people credits,” suggesting that AI-driven companies should contribute towards compensating job losses, similar to carbon credit mechanisms in environmental policy,” read a statement from the Information and Public Relations Department, Telangana.
Reddy was invited as a keynote speaker to represent Telangana state at the maiden Maiden Artificial Intelligence (AI) Symposium organised by the Kennedy School at Harvard University, Boston, on Friday.
“AI will redefine economies and power structures. We are building a global AI hub powered by talent, while expanding sectors like tourism, EVs, and infrastructure. Exploring People Credits to ensure AI remains responsible and inclusive. Hyderabad is ready,” said Reddy.

Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, attracted 70 greenfield Global Capacity Centres in 2025, becoming India’s second largest product engineering GCC hub.
Hyderabad also features in Microsoft’s $17.5 Billion commitment in India that includes setting up of a new hyperscale cloud region ‘India South Central’, that is scheduled to go live by mid 2026.
Reddy also addressed the fear of job loss associated with widescale AI adoption in the private sector.
“While fears surrounding AI are natural, given its unprecedented “agency” and intelligence, the technology is irreversible and will continue to expand in scope and influence… The CM acknowledged that entry-level jobs and overall workforce requirements in large organizations may decline even as productivity increases,” read the statement.
