In a major hiring move, OpenAI is planning to increase its staff from 4500 to 8000 by the end of 2026, signaling the organization’s change in core functioning, with emphasis on coding and business users.

As reported by Financial Times, the AI company wants to almost double its staff with the majority of the new hirings falling in areas like product development, engineering, research and sales. However, Reuters reported that it was unable to seek a comment from OpenAI spokesperson, confirming the same.

OpenAI also wants to hire “technical ambassadors” to help businesses understand and use its tools more effectively.

This hiring plan comes at a time when OpenAI is facing stiff competition from its US counterpart Anthropic Inc and Chinese competitors like DeepSeek. Recently, The ChatGPT creator OpenAI has secured $110 billion deal that values the artificial intelligence company at $840 billion, marking it as its largest funding round to date..

Inside the company, there is also a sense of urgency. CEO Sam Altman reportedly told teams to stop working on less important projects and focus on speeding up development.
