Chinese AI startup MiniMax confirmed Monday that the anonymous stealth AI model ‘Space Bunny’, which was launched on OpenRouter and OpenCode in September, is their upcoming frontier model MiniMax M3.1- Flash.
In a post on X, MiniMax, a Shanghai based AI company, explicitly stated that Space Bunny is their upcoming MiniMax- M3.1-Flash, “Frontier multimodal coding model with 1M context window and tunable thinking depth” that comes with 1M context window.
Their official X account posted “Welcome back. Space Bunny. MiniMax-M3.1-Flash is coming,” with a short video of a carrot-shaped rocket labeled Space Bunny that ends on a MiniMax M3.1-Flash title card. The announcement ended weeks of speculation driven by tokenizer fingerprinting that had already linked the stealth model to MiniMax’s M-series.

On September 23, an anonymous, free, stealth AI model Space Bunny was launched on OpenRouter and OpenCode (listed as “space-bunny-alpha”) where it offered 1-million-token context window, multimodal input (text, image, and video) with text output, mandatory reasoning with five tunable effort levels (low to max), tool calling, and high inference speed.
In less than three weeks, Space Bunny Alpha became one of the most used models on both platforms while free, popular for coding, agent workflows, and long-context tasks.
Multiple researchers had pointed towards the MiniMax family of models owing to Space Bunny’s exact token-count signatures with MiniMax-01. MiniMax also runs Hailuo AI an artificial intelligence-powered video and image generation platform
The model is available via MiniMax’s API (OpenAI- and Anthropic-compatible), MiniMax Code, and M Plan subscriptions. Early feedback praises its speed and cost-effectiveness for practical coding and agent tasks.
