Meta Launches Muse Glimmer 30B Open-Weight Local AI Model

Meta announced the launch of Muse Glimmer– a 30-billion-parameter open-weight model designed to run locally on consumer hardware such as personal computers and Mac with performant GPUs.

With the release of Muse Glimmer, Meta is now among top 3 US based AI labs that have released open models.

Meta released the model weight of Muse Glimmer under Apache 2.0 license on Monday, claiming that the open-weight model is designed for operating AI agents locally.

The launch of Muse Glimmer coincides with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg statement advocating “superintelligence” or powerful AI systems for “everyone” and condemning centralization of AI technologies by his rival companies.

 

According to Meta, after 4-bit quantization the model occupies under 20 GB and fits inside 24–32 GB of total memory, including the KV cache.

“To run Muse Glimmer on consumer hardware without degrading quality, we used quantization to shrink the language model to under 20GB and a lightweight DFlash drafter model to accelerate token generation. As a result, Muse Glimmer is fast enough for fluid conversation and real-time agent interaction, all running entirely on your device,” read a statement from Meta.

Meta claimed that from a single natural-language prompt, Muse Glimmer can locate a local Home Assistant instance, query device APIs, write a complete responsive HTML/CSS/JS dashboard, and start a local verification server.

 

Meanwhile, Arena AI, a popular crowdsourced evaluation platform ranked Muse Glimmer 26th among open models based in coding and 24th in text arena among open models.
