Appealing to artists to trademark their voice and “likeness” to stop its unauthorized use by artificial intelligence (AI) platforms, popular actor Matthew McConaughey said that AI is “already here” and people should “own themselves” to prevent AI misuse.

Speaking at the CNN and Variety Town Hall Event on Sunday, Matthew sounded alarm bells regarding the use of AI for production of films.

“It’s coming, it’s already here, don’t deny it. Maybe for you it’s not gonna be enough to be on the sidelines and make the moral plea that no this is wrong. It’s not gonna last. Because there’s too much money to be made and it’s too productive,” said McConaughey.

Speaking to fellow actor Timothée Chalamet, McConaughey added that people should anticipate “when” AI will arrive and not “if” AI will arrive.

“So I say get your voice, likeness etcetera trademarked wherever you get to..own yourself..

So when it comes, not if it comes, no one can steal you but they gonna have to come to you to go “can i” or they gonna be in breach and you will have the chance to be your own agency and go “ya for this amount”.,” added McConaughey.

The Interstellar fame actor is one of the few who recently got their image and voice trademarked to prevent its unauthorized use by AI platforms. His iconic phrase ‘’alright, alright, alright” from the 1992 film ‘Dazed and Confused’ has been trademarked recently to prevent generation of his likeness through AI.

During the townhall discussion, McConaughey also predicted that in the coming years, AI will both infiltrate human filmmaking and have its own category as well.

“In five years we will be having the best AI film, the best AI actor. It’s gonna be in front of us in ways that we are not gonna even see it, we are not gonna know the difference. The question of reality is more hazy than ever,” said McConaughey.
