AMD President and CEO Dr Lisa Su arrived in Taiwan early Tuesday for a quick trip ahead of her scheduled visit to Korea, as the US based chip giant looks to step up its chip supply.
Su, who was born in Taiwan, arrived at Taipei airport on Tuesday morning and told reporters she would meet representatives from key manufacturing partners, including Foxconn and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC).
Dr Su informed that her Taiwan visit’s priority was to ensure AMD could ramp up their CPU and GPU production amid growing AI demand, reported Reuters.
Recently, AMD had announced investments of more than $10 billion across the Taiwan ecosystem for strategic partnerships and scaling advanced packaging and manufacturing for next-gen AI infrastructure. The company informed that as part of the investment deal, it has collaborated with Taiwan-based ASE and SPIL to develop and qualify next-gen wafer-based 2.5D bridge interconnect technology.
AMD relies on a network of Taiwanese companies as AMD chip supply partners for advanced manufacturing, packaging and system production, with TSMC playing a particularly important role in producing its leading-edge processors and accelerators.
Dr Su’s detour to Taiwan comes a day ahead of her scheduled visit to Korea on October 7 where she is slated to host a “Gamer Day” event in Seoul and later meet representatives of Korean AI Chip making companies.
