Artificial Intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic PBC unveiled ‘The Anthropic Institute’, a new research body aimed at studying and reporting the “massive challenges” AI will pose to society.
According to Anthropic, the institute will be led by their co-founder Jack Clark, who will now assume the new role of Anthropic’s “Head of Public Benefit” and will spearhead a team of machine learning engineers, economists and social scientists.
“The institute will have an interdisciplinary staff from three of Anthropic’s research teams- the Frontier Red Team, the Societal Impacts Team and the Economic Research Team. The institute will also incubate new teams, and is currently working on efforts around forecasting AI progress ands better understanding of how powerful AI will interact with the legal system,” said Anthropic in a statement.
According to Anthropic, the new think tank body will address certain challenges posed by AI to the society that includes- how powerful AI systems reshape jobs and economies, what kinds of opportunities for greater social resilience will they provide, what kind of threats will AI introduce or magnify among others.
