Anthropic PBC, an American AI company founded in 2021 and based at a valuation of $965 billion, has confidentially filed for IPO (initial public offering) through a draft S-1 Form to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Monday.

Anthropic has now succeeded OpenAI in the IPO race, as the company announced its proposal will depend on market conditions, post SEC review. Anthropic, the creator of LLM model Claude, was co-founded by Amodei siblings-Dario and Daniela- after they resigned from OpenAI.

“The number of shares to be offered and the price have not yet been set. This announcement is being published under Rule 135 of the Securities Act of 1933, as amended. It is not an offer to sell securities; nor is it a solicitation of an offer to buy them. Any offers, solicitations of offers to buy, or any sales of securities will be made only in accordance with the registration requirements of the Securities Act,” read a statement from Anthropic issued on Monday.

The confidential IPO announcement by Anthropic comes in the wake of it raising $65 billion recently in Series H Funding round, thereby taking its valuation to $965 billion.

Earlier, media reports had speculated an IPO announcement by Anthropic as well as OpenAI in Q1 and Q2 of this year.
