Tech giant Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced a “code of conduct” for their in-house family of AI models, in the wake of ongoing row on frontier AI’s increasing capabilities and need for a collective pause on AI research and development.
In a post on X, Nadella announced a ‘code of conduct” for AI models to be released for public feedback on Monday along with broad access and choice given to clients at each layer of the AI stack.
Any pursuit of superintelligence has to be grounded in the core principle that if the AI we build is not helping humanity and under human control, it’s not worth pursuing.
We also need to accelerate and spread the benefits of AI, such that they are diffused broadly across…

Microsoft AI (MAI) is the company’s family of first-party AI models and the portfolio now extends beyond large language models to cover multiple AI modalities, including text and reasoning, image generation, speech recognition and voice generation. Microsoft’s MAI lineup includes models such as MAI-Thinking-1 for reasoning, MAI-Image models for image generation and editing, MAI-Voice for text-to-speech, and MAI-Transcribe for speech recognition.
Nadella’s statement comes in the wake of Anthropic AI CEO Dario Amodei calling for a voluntary pause on AI research and development by leading US based AI/tech companies, claiming that AI reaching recursive self-improvement might prove detrimental to humanity.
Amodei had also called for setting up of a country wide AI safety framework, a global consensus on AI and embedding independent, third party evaluators in the workings of the AI labs to keep the safety valve on.
Reacting to Amodei’s statement, Nadella said that any pursuit of ‘superintelligence’ should be done only “if the AI we build is not helping humanity and under human control, it’s not worth pursuing.”
“We welcome the research, focus, and deliberate pacing needed to get alignment right as the design goal. We also welcome ideas like “embedded evaluators” and the broader efforts to develop the mechanisms to make this more than just talk,” added Nadella.
