Anthropic has launched Claude for Teachers, a new program that gives verified K–12 educators in the U.S. free access to premium Claude AI features for a year. The AI company has set a deadline of June 30, 2027 for teachers to sign up for the plan and has not clarified what happens after their year-long subscription ends.

According to Anthropic, Claude for Teachers is designed to help teachers cut down on administrative work, develop personalized lessons and “spend more time with students.”

Launched on July 14, the initiative has been offered to all K-12 teachers across 50 states of the US with a deadline of June 30, 2027 to sign up and apply.

The platform connects Claude to Learning Commons, making it capable of generating lesson plans that align with academic standards in all 50 states. It also includes evidence-based instructional resources like OpenSciEd and Illustrative Mathematics’ IM v.360, helping teachers more efficiently build classroom materials aligned to the curriculum.

According to Anthropic, Claude for Teachers can perform a wide range of activities in the classroom, including tailoring lessons to meet the needs of students with varying levels of education, interpreting classroom metrics, and taking care of simple tasks like analyzing exit tickets and preparing lesson plans.

“Claude for Teachers includes Claude Code and Cowork, which means Claude can carry work forward on its own. Some examples: Analyze class data to plan instruction. Hand Claude a folder of data—roster, diagnostics, attendance, your own notes—and it builds a clear picture of where every student is, allowing teachers to better tailor instruction. You control what data is shared; nothing you share is used in model training. Schedule repeated tasks. Hand off a task once—like reviewing each day’s exit tickets to see what students mastered and adapting tomorrow’s plan to match—and it runs every school day at 4pm. Claude works while you drive home,” read a statement by Anthropic.

The tool can be integrated with other popular educational resources like ASSISTments, Brisk Teaching, Canva Education, Diffit, Eedi, MagicSchool, Snorkl, TeachFX, and Coteach which will allow teachers to conduct different tests, create interactive materials, images for their lectures, or tests.

In an effort to support the responsible use of AI technologies, the company developed a free course on AI Fluency for K-12 Teachers together with Teach For America and the American Federation of Teachers. The course focuses on practical application of AI.

According to the representatives of Anthropic, the tool incorporates privacy features specifically for teachers and uses special phrases and provisions for data processing to ensure compliance with the FERPA regulations.
