What are AI giga-factories
AI giga factories are massive facilities with large data centers, extensive computational machines and the required energy infrastructure to power them all at one place. They are being built for the dedicated purpose of building new next generation AI models. The sheer scale of computing power, GPUs, electricity and resources that are required for their functioning is why they are called “Giga factories”.
Why are they being built
Prior successfully building AI models, their output and potential was not entirely known and what could be expected of them was ambiguous. There was also uncertainty around the infrastructure and human resources required to build them. With the successful completion and deployment of these AI models the path has been largely paved out and organizations are now aiming to replicate this and in order to do so are looking to build infrastructure in the form of AI gigafactories.
Key Players
Genpact promises a revolutionary new delivery model that has been built to fast-track AI deployment and deliver results through it’s AI gigafactories. They claim this is a new model for scaling enterprise AI that combines industry expertise and technical capabilities and will overcome traditional AI factory limits and accelerate the process and value for clients.
The EU fears that it has fallen behind the US and China when it comes to AI and has decided to invest 20 Billion Euros to build AI gigafactories that will contain around a hundred thousand chips and will build advances AI models. While there have been voices both in favor of and against this decision in the EU, those in favor believe that this will enable the EU to build sovereign models which can also be tailored to European languages.
